Hi All,
Anyone any experience with said engine after being connected to wrong poles on battery? The ignition was not on and the connection to the wrong poles was brief, yet the engine is dead. Have looked for any fuses, circuit breakers, and any signs of damage to any electrical parts but cant find anything amiss, system is totally dead not even gauges working.Appreciate any pointers.

Thanks for the link MichaelH I shall follow up straight away. Yes, the engine was working fine and had been winterised the week before (fuel run out, fresh water flush etc). I had recharged the battery and was only putting it back in to lift the engine to allow trailering into the shed.

Well it sounds like a sheepish call to a Suzuki dealer. You might learn that swapping polarity shouldn't be a problem in which case it might be worthwhile looking for another reason.

I would expect this to have fried the alternator rectifier - and to have blown a fuse somewhere - my suzuki DF115 had a fuse in a not-too-obvious location, if memory serves; although I can't recall quite where.

If you have a suzuki diagram of the internal wiring, or find a link to one - post it here - it should help.

Got a tip from the iboat forum on the location of a breaker/fuse in the upper starboard area of the engine. I had looked for one but couldn't find it in any obvious location. Will check this evening and let ye know, thanks again.

That's good, you know where to look.

Bear in mind that IF the rectifier is fried, you may blow fuses even when connected the right way round.

They are pretty easy to test tho, and actually if it does blow fuses, disconnect the reg/rect & try again. I would certainly make sure it's charging properly before putting to sea next season.

Thanks MichaelH and Andyball, eventually found an unmarked white fuse box on the upper starboard side of the engine. It contained one very blown 30a push-in fuse and a shiny new spare fuse!Everything now working as normal so no other damage done but valuable lesson learned!!If ye are at LIBS on Fri 12th theres a pint or 2 at the Guinness Bar for you both! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Old post resurrection but just want to say thumbs up! I just blew this fuse by getting the wires the wrong way round on my 2008 suz df60 and there I found the white fuse box with spare 30a fuse!

Cheers
