Seems my circle of friends, acquaintances, relatives and former colleagues are striding off this mortal coil at a cracking pace.

My challenge is what is the etiquette for dealing with them in the address book?

Anyone arranged for someone to have the authority to manage old email addresses and so on after the final whistle or getting a Red Card from God?

I've got my dads email (BT) address now. Only possible as I knew the password and I also use BT, so i just added it to my account. It was very handy in the early days to notify everyone as to what had happened and the arrangements for his send off.

The good advice is to write down your own terminal wishes and details and make sure the chosen few know about where to find the document.

It is rather "final" when one's email address gets cut off. It feels really weird when one can no longer communicate with the world that one has been in daily contact for years.Which is what happened to me when i retired. Not that it would make much difference to the deceased- but it kinda feels a bit like it.
When I later returned to the firm & they turned the emails back on there were hundreds of emails inspite of my having placed " I have jacked & gone" message
I expect that when someone passes away, there will be numerous emails arriving for some months, before they gradually fade away.
That means that one really should keep them open for quite a while after, as there could be some more important ones coming in or at least a message should be pinged back explaining the situation

All my passwords, for everything, is on some typed sheets & filed in a safe, so that my offspring can gain immediate access to anything from bank accounts, investments to internet etc
