This time last year I replaced the "domestic" battery with a nice new Lucas 85ah. This time this year it has two duff cells. I will take it back for replacement but given that I turn the battery off each time I leave the boat, and that I have a separate cranking battery, and that I switch the charge to the "domestic" battery after regularly, and that I used the boat little last year, how can I test if there is something causing discharge if in fact it is not the battery that is at fault.

I would suggest that the battery is u/s even if it was disghargeing it should not be u/s after one year. unless it was a starter batterey as these do not like going completeley flat as the plares can buckle and cause the problem you have
Make sure the next one you get is a traction batterey as the plates are thicker and are better suitded to running domestics on boats /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

have you checked with an ammeter if there is ANY current being used when the batt is switched off ?

Do you physically disconnect the terminals, or use a switch ?
