So, turns out I have a dud actuator, part no. 3582818 on my KAD300

Once swapped, worked fine.

It's jammed in reverse, once I power up it starts buzzing.

Anyone got any bright ideas? I've nothing to lose with this one and have it on the bench beside me.

Failing that, where in the UK can I get one at a most reasonable (!!!) price?

Opened it up, one of the plastic cogs / wheels is worn down. This would have happened most likely to the actuator wanting to go in reverse and not stopping which was caused by a failed limit switch.

There is about 100 euro of parts in there, max (and that's being generous)

Renew the shift cable a must otherwise you may blow the new unit.

The shift cable moves fine, I tested it... as easy as the other one, anyway. No real effort... but how much effort should it take?

This actuator has been making a funny noise since I bought the boat 3 years ago. The other one is nice and smooth, this one made a thud-thud-thud noise. When I put the port actuator on, all smooth!

But on that note, any tricks for replacing the shift cable? Might be an idea to do it while i'm at it.

What's confusing is... it went into reverse (un beknown to me, when I powered up some time) as I left the throttles in neutral. I'm guessing that it just didn't stop wanting to go into reverse hence the mashed teeth :( As it made it to reverse, but didn't stop!

May be the throttle electronic controls can get wet ,rain ,damp and condensation leading to wrong messages being sent ie not shutting off hence mashed teeth ?
Reason I say this when I had a kad 300 boat and v rarely experianced probs like this and trim issues the
VP engineer would always start at the controls - switches first and eliminate those .

I would have thought that the safety mechanism would be in the actuator itself, to stop it going any further once fully extended? (it extends to put in reverse)

Just to add, when I tested the other actuator, no problems and sounded smooth! 'N' light appeared straight away.

The noise i've been hearing for the past while (I can't remember if since new) on the failed one i'm guessing was the teeth slowly failing.

Prior Diesel came up trumps. They got back to me first thing this morning with the most competitive price and excellent communication. They should have it in a week. Fingers crossed.

In fairness, various other suppliers also got back to me before lunch today, but prices were higher so glad I went with Prior.

I have had excellent service from Prior diesel in the past, they also offer a good discount through the Sealine forum. No connections etc, just a satisfied customer.
