After much soul searching, I put my Vancouver 27 into the Deacons Used Boat Show. Just received a letter informing me the brokerage has been taken over by "Why boats" and the sales etc at the used boatshow will be handled by the new company. Does anyone know anything about "Why boats"? Are the an established business or newly formed etc etc.

Must say I'm surprised Deacons took my money without mentioning this change, not saying it'll be a good or a bad change, just surprised!

I wouldn't worry about not being told, the deal would have been very confidential and might have been in the balance until the day pen was put to paper. As for what or who they are I would investigate the new directors and owners for other companies and "events" just to be careful. I would work on the basis of trust no one till you have some business history. companies in the UK is a good site.

I bought my boat through Why Boats. I would say they had a professional approach to Brokerage. I did not use their brokerage service to purchase as the sale was very straightforward.

I know of two other people that have had their boats in their hands and have heard nothing but praise for their service.

Whilst in the process of looking for my Fulmar late last year, my surveyor and I were talking about good agents and he commented that Why Boats was a very good and honest agent who know a lot about boats. So I would not be worried at all, in fact you may get even better service. I personally have not dealt with Why Boats, but I have known the surveyor for over 25 years and would trust his judgement.
