Dayskipper Practical

I'm looking for a sailing school running the Dayskipper Practical course, convenient for the NW of England, i.e. North Wales or South West Scotland. They are all charging about the same (£320 -£390) but I would obviously prefer to go off a personal recommendation.Does anyone have any personal experience (either good or bad)of any schools in these areas. I've looked at all the websites but they are all claiming to be the best.

The one running out of Conwy Marina came in for some very heavy criticism on these boards a few months ago.

Plas Menai are OK but a bit on the "production line" style.

go to gibraltar like we did, sail with jack peate, go to morroco and then for a night sail come back across the straits to spain, the sun is still shining and it was wonderful and WARM and we got our ticket

Cannot agree more - I went with Jack and everything was excellent including the sunbathing in mid-February!

I would agree. Never heard many positive comments (and some real horror stories !) about the others which I will not name.

I did competent crew with another sailing school in North Wales which is no longer operating (Sailing North Wales) and my next preference would be for Island Seaschool.

I spoke to the owner, Stan at Island Sea School earlier in the week about a Dayskipper course and he was very helpful. He has a Rival 41 which is a lovely boat and a Westerly Fulmar.

Thanks for the replies and comments. I have now booked the course with Island Sea School. I agree that they do appear to be very helpful. I also like the fact that they do not charge extra for berthing fees, diesel, etc. like so many do.
