I am based in Switzerland and would like to do the day skipper theory over the winter. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good online/correspondence course? I understand it is also possible to do the exam at home, is that correct?
Thanks in advance for your help...Pete

If you can accomodate, happy to run a course in Switzerland for you :-)

Just checking - you do realise that you won't get a certificate of competence at the end, only a course completion certificate which is not in itself a qualification?

The Dayskipper Shorebased is not a Certificate of Competence anyway (regardless of whether done at home or at a centre).

I would recommend Ocean Training www.oceantraining.com

We have taught the practical course to a number of their students, who have always demonstrated a good grasp of the theory and spoken highly of the correspondence course.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone who replied, I will look into some of the websites which were posted.

I did mine with Chichester...I can highly recommend them, it means that you have to be a little strict with yourself and only move on once you are happy that you've understood the lessons.

If you email the guys with a question there is a very fast response and clear descriptions/explanations.

When it came to doing the practical I just go on with it as everything in the course set you up to have the skills to do the practical.

Another highly rec vote for CM

Very well made out, carried me through to the practical courses very nicely.

Hi,
I have completed two theory courses at home - Dayskip and Coastalskip/Yactmaster. Enjoyable way to learn.
