Just looking for someone to come out with me, for days or half days here and there to build up my confidence, I've not a complete newbie, I've had a full year at it now, upgraded from a Quicksilver 555, to a SEaray 230. and now a Quicksilver Weekend 855, but all my boating has been in Spain, I've had no experience in the Uk, she will be berthed at Chichester, and I would need some guidance, please private message me your charges, and if you are available for quite a few days here and there in June this year. Im available all days not just weekends, thanks guys .

Where is your boat and are you a member of the Chichester Yacht Club? I have a boat in the Premier Marina and RYA day skipper. June is a busy month but perhaps something could be worked out.

Could I suggest that rather than being led by the blind you invest a couple of quid in the services of a qualified instructor.

I don’t mean to sound rude but I see so many people out there who use their little bit of knowledge to dangerous effect. Far better to engage the services of someone who knows and is qualified to teach. It doesn’t have to be a formal course but something along the lines of a day skipper course tailored to your particular useage.

There are lots of instructors, suggestions of mine would be Tim Griffin from Griffin Marine Services or Steve from Prestige Motor Yacht Charter (he used to run Haslar Sea School).

I had been boating for probably 15 years before I undertook training to become a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster offshore. That was 10 years ago and I wish I’d done it earlier.

I see day skipper qualification as the bare minimum to skipper your own vessel rather than a qualification to teach others.

Agree with Henryf completely.

One or two days of own boat bespoke tuition from a qualified instructor will be far better than a months worth of well meant help from a friend.

I would endorse the advice to get some own boat professional tuition. When we bought our twin shaft motor boat I had many years experience of manoeuvring Sailing boats with single engines, both fin and long keel, mainly the latter. A twin screw motor boat is an entirely different beast! We had a half day with a chap from the local Sea school in our boat and he made it a much easier transition. There was still a lot more to learn from experience but it gave me a solid grounding.
Sadly our boating days are no more, but lots of happy memories.
