Not sure, but I suspect theory can be done by somebody of any age, subject to their being up to the level of maths required (GCSE-ish, I suppose).

I seem to recall that PB 1/2 certificate has to carry an endorsement if the person is under 16 at the time of taking the course but, again, I'm not sure there is any specific age limit otherwise.

There was a boy of 10 that took PB level 2 when I did mine a few too many moons ago, He didn't get the ICC though. Don't know about day skip, but the scouts/cubs/beavers near me are doing it though.

I'm not sure, although isn't there an age limit in Holland or somewhere? I would have thought that if he reached the required standard then he should have been allowed to apply for it.

I did mine when I was 15, but at the time as far as the sailing school knew, I was the youngest person to have done it. Don't think there are any rules about age until teh qualification is DoT recognised ie commercial YM etc

There are a variety of rules in Holland that apply to 'schnelmotorboten' ie those capable of more than 11 knots. These include a minimum age for helmsmen/women (16 I think - I saw a group of 13-14 year olds in a fast tender stopped and towed back to the 'mother ship' by the police)) and one that forbids the helmsman (of any age) from standing up whilst at the wheel

I am talking theory, not practical for dayskipper. Is there a difference?

You are not allowed to helm a boat with engine capable of 10.8 knots or over until you are 18, my son was towed back by the police in Holland, but they only warned us in the end, as we weren't aware.

But- But-But! I am over 18!! (cough-cough!)
Is that a holland rule? Plenty of youngsters over here on the helm at less than 18
