Go and buy the Navigational Exercise pack. It covers all aspects of the theory courses with answers and it will give you good idea of how much you do and don't know! You should be able to buy it from your local chandlers or get it from the RYA. The charts etc are based on the old courses but nothing else has changed. If you can do most of what's in the exercises then you are away to races and you won't be fooling yourself.

Fraid that would be me but I did pass my test first time without one lesson, taught myself without touching the road.

Thanks for all the help and advice, have signed up for a correspondence Day Skipper theory with Chichester Marine and hopefully will then give David a bell for Cs Practical.

As you own a sealine 255 why not talk to Sealines own Sea School about training. Try www.sealine.com and follow the link to the School pages. Use the number and speak to Donna the Sea School co-ordinator. The 255 was and is still a good boat but driving this boat in the sheltered waters of the broads and in the open sea is very very diferent. I've driven and known this particular model for 8 or more years. Bite the bullet, speak to Sealine sea school, get the right training. They will advise you on the correct courses to enable to make the best of your boat. If you want a second opinion try contacting powerskipper through the forum.

That will be she who works for us then! As we speak she should be bringing a new Phantom 50 out of Portishead and taking it up to Milford Haven and then returning on a Phantom 40. Nice day for it - I on the other hand will be out on the new RYA rib supporting the Wight Stuff round the Island Jet ski charity run today. There are over 100 entries and they do this every year in support of the RNLI.

As stated elsewhere the 4 day Day Skipper Practical course will get you an ICC certificate up to 24m loa.

We now do a combined theory and practical Day Skipper course. By all means drop Phil, our school principal an email, or call him on our free phone number, (on our web site) he will be pleased to answer all your questions.
