I've persuaded SWMBO that shes ready for Day skipper practical this summer. Quite fancy west coast of scotland as a sailing area. Has anyone any recommendations of schools in the Largs/clyde area that they have used?

i have just completed a day skipper with sunsail in lanzerotte very good also have a school in largs i believe,I was very happy with it ,very crafty testing but good you felt you earned it

I had the same notion and did it with Ron McInnes out of Troon, trading as Gael sail or similar. He was very good - loads of experience, lots of wrinkles and a good teacher. Don't know if he's still going. Location was excellent - around the Clyde so v scenic but sheltered enough for the course to go ahead. Very quiet compared to Solent and negligable tide so not much coll regs or tidal calcs. Go ahead, should be brilliant.

I've been here 3, or is it 4, times now.

Excellent instruction, good food, nice boat. What more is there?

Steve will pick you up from Prestwick airport if you come by RyanAir or similar.

[/ QUOTE ]I would second that although I believe Steve is quite well booked for the next few months. Would not hurt to give him a call though - very pleasent chap with the patience of a saint.
Failing that there is always Ronnie - Another excellent tutor sailing out of Troon. Worth giving him a call as well.

Try Scotsail at Largs. I did my Day Skipper on their new Hanse 342, but it has now been replaced with a very impressive new Hanse 411. Loads of space and very comfortable - makes all the difference if the accommodation complements a good standard of instruction.

Ron still on the go, loads of experiance, Steve at Secondwind sailing quite new here but seems to get good reports, whatever your choice the sailing out from Troon as good as you can get......I've been doing it for the last 28 years and found no where better yet!!!!.
