Day out on East Coast

Harwich

The foot ferry was running in October by special arrangement for the Shanty weekend, normally stops at the end of September. My vote would go to either Woodbridge or Ipswich, and I live in Walton and like Harwich,a proper sailors town.

Might I suggest Ipswich? There are two marinas to walk round and you could book a variety of boats trips which take you down the River Orwell, which is very scenic, and down to the sea. The Loch Fyne Sea Food restaurant is close to Neptune Marina. Wherever you go, have a great time.
The boat trips are on 'Lady Orwell' and she's usually out of the water around this time of the year.

I'd recommend Woodbridge... very pretty

I was thinking something more like one of these:

Britannia Sailing - Lessons;Sailing;Fishing;Charter Or Hire;Holidays;Wildlife Watching;Public Trips.

Sailing Days - Public Trips;Wildlife Watching;Charter Or Hire;Sailing;Holidays;Restaurant. Sailing the rivers of Suffolk and Essex and also cruise to France, Belgium and London. Dine and Sail, birthday celebrations, night time sailing and corporate days. All aboard a Jeanneau 42ft Deck Saloon new in 2006.

The Cirdan Sailing Trust (inc The Faramir Trust) Ltd - Charter Or Hire;Sailing. Sailing opportunities are available for individuals/groups with a sense of adventure or those with an interest in traditional sailing vessels. Although these are generally day sails we do occasionally arrange longer charters across to Holland or France. Our smaller vessels are ideal for families and friends wishing to undertake an adventurous holiday but with the added benefits of a professional crew. These voyages are run in the same way as all our others with the emphasis being on team work but the amount of sailing to leisure time will vary depending on the group.

Topsail Charters Ltd - Public Trips;Charter Or Hire;Sailing;Wildlife Watching;Holidays. Our Thames Sailing Barges, with their distinctive red ochre sails, evoke an era long since past. We offer lunch and evening cruises, day sails and weekends away on the rivers of Essex, Suffolk and Kent, for individuals or groups.

Thanks all for the great input. We ended up going to faversham which was very enjoyable, then moing on in search of more sea to broadstairs. A great day had by both of us, and I definitely feel that i need to see woodbridge and harwich soon.
