We are in the market for some Davits. I have seen some substantial box section ones on some boats. Does anyone know who makes such things, or do I start drawing?

Why not have a chat with your friends in The Warship Support agency,they should be able to rough you up a set of plans and sub out the work,will probably cost less than a million and be ready for delivery by 2012.
Seriously though,I did this exercise about 10 years ago on a big Moody,it was considerably cheaper to draw up our own specs and have it made up by a local fabricator,that way you can have exactly what you want and can easily incorporate add-ons such as aerial/array mountings, solar panels and bimini securing points.

I found it cheapest to buy the larger plastimo davits
from mailspeed and then get them modified for my requirements (added support for large solar panel)
