Hi,
One of my davit cables failed last year so I am going to replace both. I see that Cooney’s are offering a Dyneema conversion kit. My davits are Simpson D100 units rated to 100kg total. I have an aluminium hull rib and Tohatsu 9.8 2 Stroke and I weighs around 90kg in total. Dyneema is a high end rope used on racing yachts/keelboats. It’s low stretch and 4mm Dyneema is rated to 1500kg loading. Seems ideal but I’m just wondering if I will need to change the sheaves. A good mate is very handy at splicing this type of rope.
Has anyone bought this conversion kit? Can you tell me what is in the kit?

I did it without the kit many years ago. The kit will be the rope I expect. Ask them. I can’t see you need anything else. A simple DIY job.

Several years ago I switched to Dyneema on a trailer winch. Never looked back and now using it in places where non flex lines are needed. Extremely durable without the cons of wires.

I'd go for the heaviest Dyneema that will fit. Not because I don't trust it, but because I'm a great fan of safety ;)

Yes, it will be a DIY job. The Cooney kit sounds expensive for a few bits of rope. I did a bit of Googling and people suggested going like for like on the size. Might try to go from 4mm wire to 5mm Dyneema.
Next job is to fit a new set of pad eyes down low on the transom to let me lift the dinghy higher so it sits against the davits. Talamex put the aft eyes on the top of the transom. Makes no sense at all.
Thanks
