Datatag - Outboard - Worth It?

I am getting a new outboard and inflatable as last one has gone past being on its last legs. Dealer has mentioned Datatag. I know a bit about it as my last motorcycle was "done" with it from new when I bought it. Not sure how well it is in the marine industry? Is it worth it?

Our local Police force used to do some marine security talks but not heard of any recently.

A while back, the RYA ran a promotion on Datatag, so I bought one, easy enough to fit, good instructions, sticker on the outboard to say it's been tagged.

I guess I'll never know whether it's worth it as a deterrent, and I hope I'll never have to test it's utility, trying to recover it the outboard if it's stolen.

I figured it was unlikely to do any harm, and it might possibly do some good. I told my insurance company the outboard was tagged, and gave them the serial number, but they made no comment and it didn't seem to reduce the insurance premium.
