Is it possible for anyone to access information regarding your boat etc from the SSR.
Also can anyone access information from the radio licensing body regarding your Call sign.
At what level of information, if you can access it, does it stop. In otherwords will you be able to get my name and address from the BIO on this Forum just because I have given the name of my boat.

Radio registration details available here. Very limited details available on line. Don't know about SSR. There seems to be a facility to register or change your details on line but it looks like you need a lot of the information on the regisration certificate to get in.

You got something to hide then?

I have no interest in accessing anyone elses details I am just wondering how much information is available. I have to deal with data protection every day in my work. The general public should not be able to access this information.

You sound like a policeman if I had something to hide I would have nothing in my bio.
I see you have about the same level of information in your bio as I do. I assume that that level is what you are comfortable with. I dont believe you would be happy with someone using that info to dig deaper.

Sorry, only a gentle dig intended.

I am sure that anyone could work out from my bio here exactly who I am. This information is freely given whereas we are required to provide details for SSR, radio licencing, etc. so presumably those details may not be disclosed to the public.

As an aside the SSR site appears to permit you to change the details of a registered vessel including overall length, beam, and number of hulls. Hard to see when you would want to change those.

No offence taken like you say information that is freeley given in the knowledge that it will be seen by many people is one thing but if we have an expectation of privacy it is another matter.
I will try to access the information and if I cant I suppose no one else can.

[/ QUOTE ]Jings, that's a bit scary - even has the MMSI number thingy.

I can see this as being the source of hours of endless pleasure during the hours of darkness. A lot of peeps tend to leave the VHF on, but turned down low, while at anchor. Hmm, but how do they turn off the DSC alarm? So it's two in the morning, we're p*shed, who shall we annoy tonight????????

Also, just found the only boat with an identical name to ours - in Honduras.

Interesting stuff. There are around 12 vessels all called "Titanic". Personally, not a name I would have thought would score highly in the popularity stakes !! Mind you - you could call them up, say your fridge had broken and could you have a few ice cubes for the G&Ts.

This is a fun game......

what cads, these are the equivalent of bumper stickers...

very common for catamarans. I would never have called her that in a million years, but I am dead against name changing, so am stuck with it unfortunately.

This is a great site!

There's also a Norwegian yacht that used to be called DIDDI - now it's called BASSA. Don't know why they bothered.

Oh, I can see some fun coming........................

Re: This is a great site!

I thought everyone new about that site. Now where did I put the lid to that can of worms.

It is fun checking up on all those more common boat names. How many can you find that hit the 200 limit? "Calypso" gets there as does "Lucky..." and "Misty..."

Re: This is a great site!

"Sun" and "Star" and "Moon" also hit the 200 limit

Damn!

We're the one in Honduras.

Also lots of BLUEs and one DUN BAILIN and one DUN SAILIN (a MOBO).

Must refit that old VHF.............

Meanwhile, back in Norway, how does the master of the merchant ship FUCUS prepare himself for the usual wee sma' hours interrogation by the Shetland or Stornoway coastguards:

"I say again sir, what is the name of your vessel, it's gross tonnage, and cargo?"
