So a mate when he is closer to Dartmouth than slapton when on auto pilot ,says that the auto has changed direction to shore and the plotter has moved 110 degrees ,and if I am correct the auto pilot is controlled by a compass .Are we missing something .

Something similar has happened to me in the past, once because a tv moved at sea and landed by the compass, another time it was a battery powered razor.

Dartmouth is my home port and I cruise Start Bay quite frequently, almost always on auto pilot, never had a problem there.

Find out where the electronic compass is located and check that something metal or electronic has not been recently stored nearby

I had an issue when Alexa decided to move to a position on the boat where she could be heard.
Alexa move away from the gyro compass doesn’t compute unfortunately.
She will be staying ashore in future.
