New live aboard ? still trying to get all the essentials!

I just missed similar lock down introduction to yacht life due to dubious weather for a first time channel crossing on weekends (I would have ended up stuck in Poole I think). If you can handle it under these conditions you a probably set for better times. Was planning on mooching west, so might bump into you when this is over.

Aha awesome! All I can say is do it, its brilliant!

I have just spent 3 leisurely days rebuilding my windlass, and listening to birds I doesnt get much better than this!

Well I have found water on the town quay, if i had a hosepipe and a smaller boat i could get right in there and just fill up from the pipe!

For now I'm thinking i will just use lots of 5L cans and keep pouring away!

There is a tap by the dartmouth scrubbing grid. If you go and look at low tide, you'll see the wooden sleepers to sit on. just after the corner(50ft north of the grid) there is plenty of room to tie up for the first third part of the tide(34ft ketch with 6ft fin draft). we use it to lean against and scrub the bottom then fill up the water tanks. Theres a mains tap on the corner.

Easiest water is at Darthaven Marina, the section next to the quay by the station has a short stay section, I’ve filled up there before.

Just found a load of rust patches 6inch dia roughly just below the waterline, so I think its gonna be a haul out if I can find somewhere that will let me stay on the boat and do my own work! ( I haven't asked about yet)

Dont think they charge to tie up for the tide by scrubbing grid(water filling). you do need harbour master to go through an 'assessment-health and safety'- cr..p. beforehand. Dont know if youre on Dave Distin moorings/dart harbour or noss. Were on Dave Distins. Have a wander up the creek and speak to everyone. Dave's is at the top and is an invaluable guy to speak to. He would probably know if he could lift you out/or put on his beach at high springs until the next high springs???? He would also know if there is anywhere for rent or friend sharing space at the same time? while its done.I'd say you could use ours but i daren't ask the missus.
Darthaven is apparently closed and is expensive. When we took our boat down to darthaven 5years ago, we stayed on it while i was doing my own work, but shhhhh-get what i mean?
We were out of the water for a few months while i completely stripped the antifoul down past the gelcoat. then gelshield and coppercoat, new shaft/prop/rudder bearings/blakes seacocks and loads of other stuff.

If youre capable of the work yourself, DO IT; Research and ask, brainpick, Trust only your skill and you'll be okay.
Our coppercoat is still amazing after 5 years, I did my sister's moody 31 also. that is just as good 2 years on. I know of people who have had it done through big corporate marinas not 50 feet away from Darthaven (aint none eh???) and it was peeling after 12 months. BUY COPPERCOAT DIRECT FROM AMC. AMC say they haven't sold any coppercoat to any of those marinas for the past 7 years so I don't know where they got it from? Pay for the quality.
I've done ours and my sisters boat and I'm only a sparky/property bloke and like to 'over-engineered' things. It pays with prep and prep and err on the side of caution kidda.
Its hard graft but well worth it. If you want a look at the two boat's coppercoat them P.M. me and i'll gladly tell you the exact boats and go have a look.
I could also pass on dave's number.
