Just heard on the news that somebody parked their Vauxhall Corsa hire car on a slipway in the Bristol Channel. Then that rare phenomenon the 'King Canute' effect occurred.

The Corsa is now somewhere at sea:rolleyes:

Once new a great Irish guy who had been brought up and spent his youth on a island in the River Shannon.
As well as the tale he told about the corrupt Guarda who had arrested him for taking salmon out of the River during the war-the family had had historical fishing rights before Irish Hydroelectric took over control of the river.
His most wonderful tale related to an occasion where he had arrived at the chain ferry slip to the Island next to which was a pub-it being late in the evening and dark he had popped into pub for a quick drink before catching the ferry-on going back outside the Ford Thames van had crept down the slip into the water still with its lights on.Typical of J... it was a
local vandal who had released the brake and as for the lights being on well!
Probably no longer with us but he told stories any of which could have made a good Irish(Kerryman)joke.

Presumably it was renamed Ford Shannon after its baptism?

I once went to view a car and something was fishy. It subsequently turned out that it had been under water.

Something to do with a carp fisherman getting foul hooked when corsa fishing.

I do wish we had a link to the famous "caravan getting rescued by lifeboat at Woolacomnbe" thread that resulted in several bans on a caravanning forum to members of this august forum ..
