Danboline Bilge Paint

Will be starting to repaint the bilge (well Lockers that border the bilge proper and maybe a sneaky coat in quarter berths). When I have done this in the past I used Danboline and liked it, but have heard that they have changed the formulation over the last 10 years or so and it isn't as good anymore. It did used to give me one hell of a headache. Is the deterioration thing True or False?

What do you reckon to this stuff as an alternative?:

I have used it for years and always been impressed. The most recent use was a few weeks ago and it certainly seemed to go on the same way as it always has - both white and grey and very opaque and give good coverage. I have heard a few people saying it's very fumey but haven't personally thought it was any worse than any other paint.

The only problem I have had with it was when I put 3 or 4 coats on, one per day, in the main area of the (always wet at that time - prior to re-seating all deck fittings) main bilge area and it bubbled after 6 months, but was easy to rub down and re-coat.
 
I use B&Q's best garage floor paint (there are versions for wood AND concrete), made by Ronseal.

No headache - but 'tis a windy shed.
 
Danboline is a much better bilge paint than The Other Brand (which is better at primer, I think).

Unlike Brand X, it dries hard and shiny and and is easy to keep clean.

I strongly recommend NOT doing what most of us do (including me, until I saw the light) - slopping it on to cover up stains - get a good surface and then apply several THIN coats.
 
As Parsifal said and I agree. I have used Silk finish kitchen and bathroom emulsion for many years and no smell easy to clean and re coat in mins. NO apin and all gain
 
Like to report back when I've done the job - bilges painted (after sanding and applying degreaser) two coats of grey looked great. It doesn't seem as fumey as it once was (no head ache afterwards) but the finish is excellent in a rough area of bilge. Thinking of using it on the quarter berth sides/deck head area next.

why not choose a gloss paint with more colour choice`s
