Hi guys,

I've got some Danboline left after painting the bilges and think it would work well as an interior paint.

Has anyone any thoughts on this, do you think it would be suitable?

Thanks loads,

James

I've used the white danboline on the hull interior, inside lockers, bulkheads etc. It's really very good and I would certainly use it again.

Tough and hardwearing, ideal for interior use especially where it it exposed to wear. I used to use the red as deck paint with some fine sand mixed in, lasted for ages. I guess red decks may not suit everyone but it looked good on the traditional style craft I used to own.

I've got mixed feelings about Danboline these days. I used to be its No 1 fan, couldn't get enough of it, grey everything... engine room, bilges, lockers. Not so keen any more, it just doesn't seem to have the same consistency it used to have, seems watered down to me now. The stuff I remember when I first started using it required winding your arm off to get the solids to mix.

I used the Hempel equivalent last time for bilge work. Went on well, but possibly a bit more gloss than Danboline.

I have used flow coat in many areas, high gloss, easy to keep clean, very hard surface, apply with a roller and tip off with a long bristle brush for a very smooth and durable coating. Lasts for many many years.

Just make sure you have good ventilation when applying.

Good luck and fair winds. :)

I'm a great fan of Danboline and as an experiment painted an aluminium rainwater down pipe with it as I wanted it to be white rather than black. Two coats did it and it's fine after about 6 years in a S. facing situation. I had wondered whether, as a bilge paint, it would have poor UV resistance but seems not to be the case.

Sounds great, thanks to all for the recommendations.

The painting started this evening and it's all looking pretty good thus far!

Thanks again to all.

James

Have a read through this post http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?348889-Painting-Inside-of-Cabin

The quarter berth I painted with Danboline continues to flake, whereas the Sadolin Superdec side looks perfect. Both were painted within a few months of each other about three years ago with the same level of prep. My guess is that the formula changes to Danboline mentioned elsewhere mean it's not the paint it once was
