Dan?..........Dan?.........

is it me, or does everyone go a bit crazy when the river speeds up a touch? ive been out to sea in boats with no hp and its been far worse! What is the big deal with red boards and while i'm at it have many been shipwrecked as a result?

My sentiments exactly. Over hyped scare mongering. Only fears are reduced bridge heights.

"What is the big deal with red boards and while i'm at it have many been shipwrecked as a result?"

My take on this is simply the lack of sea room. With the fast flowing current up river you only have a couple of seconds/yards to correct any errors before ending up hitting the bank and aground with resulting damage to rudder/props and hence no control over your boat when you get washed off the bottom again and disappear towards your nearest friendly weir.
Get it wrong on the briney and at least there will be a bit of room to sort your self out?
Also engine size can come into play, fine if you are like my mates boat with 600HP carthorses to play with, but not so good if with same size boat and only 80HP bit wheezy small ponies.

sorry B1, to clarify, yes, I wondered why you were seeking Dan.

Although to be quite honest I didn't understand Mr_C's reply either. A request for a moderator followed by a minor rant about whether we should play on the river when the red boards are up seemed rather cryptic to a bear of little brain.

A few days ago I pm'd Dan asking him to clear down the River Conditions thread ready for the next time it is needed. Have had no reply and was just trying to flush him out.

You mean you haven't tried to get on to the forum for the last 18 hours. Falling to pieces all over the place. It's still a bit flakey this afternoon, but mainly working. The only way to get on at one point was via a very circuitous route involving the "jump to " button or the who's online area. Very wierd.

sorry for the randon yellow/red board thing yesterday being in the Dan...Dan... zone. I must say, like Byron i think much is hyped, but i remain respectful of the river of course. p.s. hope you find/found Dan!
