Hi All,

My boat was lifted back into the water a couple of weeks ago. The arrangement was for her to be towed back to her berth. I paid a visit to her on Saturday to find that she'd been left tied up in the holding area for drystack boats. It gets very tight in this area and at over 32ft long my boat was taking up a fair amount of space.

In short, during the time that she's been in this area someone has hit the side of her, scratching the gel coat and smashed off a cowl that covers the blower vents on the rear starboard quarter. Finding a replacement is proving to be a challenge as the boat went out of production a few years ago. I've seen mention on an owners forum that the manufacturer will make one to order at a cost of $1000 plus shipping.

I suspect I know the answer to this but I feel rather aggrieved with the Marina. I'm hoping that they will accept some responsibility and contribute toward the cost of repair.

Do you think I should push this?

Absolutely!
Does the marina have CCTV of the holding area?
Good luck.

Do you have it in writing that the boat was to be returned to its berth? If so then push hard, but also look for a solution that you can present to them, is there anyone locally who could fabricate the cowl as well as getting a quote for the gel repair.

If you have nothing in writing then I'd be asking why it was left elsewhere and ask what they're prepared to do to put things right.

For the forth time someone has hit the front of my boat in the marina and not reported it. Feeling a bit pi$$ed off with it. Anyway, to the OP, most insurance companies wont penalise you if the accident happened in your home marina so claim off your own.

Thanks for the replies. CCTV is a yes but not knowing when it happened, and the fact that she's been sat there for two weeks the Marina aren't optimistic that they'll find anything.

The lift booking form has a section regarding towing from and to the berth prior and after the lift. Both were requested.

A quick way to find to CCTV sequence:

Look at video from the middle of the time period - damaged or not? if yes go to 1/4 of the time line of not go to the 3/4 time, repeat process. You will very quickly get to the time when the damage happened by halving the outstanding time period and checking for damage and repeating as needed.

Best of luck

Why wasn't it taken directly back to your berth? Two weeks sitting in a heavy traffic area? Seems like a slack operation. They need to own this problem for sure.

Good luck with the outcome.

Did the same for a lightning strike CCTV sadly even the camera went offline due to the surge at the time.

CCTV would be the way forth!!

We call that a "binary chop search". Love the classic computing algorithms

An update on this one. The UK dealer have managed to locate a replacement part at a reasonable price and the Marina have agreed to cover a good proportion of the cost. Under the circumstances a fair result.
