I just watched the video again. I just realised that the yard doesn't use hurricane straps. Florida gets hit by hurricanes a lot yet the yard has no hurricane policy. Here in Curacao, there hasn't been a hurricane impact since 1800s. The yard still has every boat ratchet strapped down by four 10 tonne ratchet straps during the summer months. Hurricane eyes are concreted in to the yard for this purpose. Why do insurance companies not insist on hurricane provisions in the hurricane bowling alley that is Florida? A lot of this mayhem could have been avoided if boats laid up during hurricane season took basic precautions. Some interesting footage here:
Seems to illustrate that those with masts down, or power boats, stand a good chance of staying the right way up, even in hurricane force winds. Odd that they would persist with keeping masts up in that region, perhaps insurers will take the hint.
