Well thats not good hit something in the water on Monday just had a look and it has cracked my out drive casing so how expensive is this going to be. Is this a big job?

Get it lifted and then contact your insurers.

You are the third boat I have heard of this year with similar problems!

That's bad luck Lionel. I empathise. I lost my outdrive on the cuddy last year. Hit a sandbank so all my fault. You didn't say which outdrive you had on. For me a Mercruiser MR outdrive cost 2.5k

Its a mercury so same as yours it was an object in the water for me did not see it so just gutted insurance have been notified. Engineer has been and had a look. He does not think gears are affected as he started engine and put in gear. He reckons at least 2-3 weeks once he gets go ahead from insurance. Have to stay positive no one was hurt and i will save on fuel when its not in the water

Stay positive, if it's just the case then it shouldn't be a massive bill. I think you are on a Bravo 3? I tried to see how much a gear case cost but they are POA. The whole drive is eye wateringly expensive, but judging and subtracting from gear component costs I think the main bill will come from labour. Upper or lower gearcase?

Lower case literally 1" from missing. At least when it comes back I will happy that the leg is in good working order, also means I can get on and do the jobs that would not of got done as its out of the water and I cannot be tempted to go out when I should be doing DIY on it

Aye. That's my predicament. Mine was sold as a project boat. There's heaps cosmetically that needs doing. Touch wood the engines and drives have recently been through a major rebuild and good.

Not relevant if insurance is covering, but there is a guy in Germany importing new drives / parts and selling them cheaply - Micheal Machol or someone. I have bought from him before, and all above board at well below even good 2nd hand prices. Used to advertise on boatshop24.co.uk or .com, not sure.

Well spoke to the engineer today, it may turn out cheaper to get a whole new bottom section of the merc bravo rather than him taking it all apart, of course that will speed the whole process up. I am just waiting for his quote so that I can forward it onto the insurer's hopefully they will give it the go ahead quickly so that I can get it back on the water

Well 6 weeks in from the initial incident I still don't have the boat back on the water. The insurance company have agreed to pay for a new bottom section of the stern Drive, even though it was recommended by everyone to fit a Whole new one, but the insurance company are not prepared to pay for a new one and I cannot afford to pay the difference. just waiting for the money to be put into my account so that I can give it to the engineer so that he can order the new part. So it looks like its another 4 weeks off the water :(

That's off putting. I had to wait 12 weeks last year for a Alpha MR to be shipped over after placing the order with a dealer. That was a dealer botch up, but it took a huge chunk out of the season for me so I can empathise.

Well its now been about 9 weeks since the damage on my boat occurred. After much 2ing and throwing which has included a damaged bottom section being ordered and then turning up damaged, it looks like my outdrive is going back on tomorrow, and hopefully will be pout for a sea trail on it on Monday, which if all goes well means I can get out and enjoy the rest of the summer. In fairness since it happened (easter weekend) the weather has not been that great.

Well boat now fixed, done a quick sea trial and it appears all good, was planning to go down on sunday and have some fun, Now my VAn has decided to fall apart and is not worth getting fixed so may have to cancel any enjoyment on the boat until I get a replacement van
