Has anyone been up to Ancient Caunos in their own dingy recently. We have just anchored off the island of Delikada and attempted to make it up to Caunos in the dingy only to be told by the many commercial tripper boat crews that there would be problems from the police and fines amounting to millions of Lira. We think it was a ploy to get us to take the tripper boats at 40 Euro per head. There are signs up at the entrance saying no speed boats but we hardly a speedboat with a rib and 8 HP outboard.

Earlier thread on same subject . Sounds like the cooperative are still up to their tricks. The exposed remains of Kaunos itself are not up to much . The rock tombs are about 1km further inland and worth a walk up to. Try a late afternoon trip up the river and tie up on the jetty where the rowing boat ferry crosses and ask over a cay at one of the two cafes if they would look after your rib whilst away. Its a 5 minute walk along the road past and along the side of the cemetery to the rock tombs. You will find the entrance unmanned and the gate in the fence not locked . ;) . Its a further 10/15 minutes along the road to the entrance to Kaunos for which you may be charged.
