Daft question?

Erm, having checked the 'flaty for air leaks I've just propped it up on chairs and put the hose in it. Water is dripping from the keel seam (which is just the lowest point so could be a red herring). Before I try it for the first time in the water I wanted to know if they need to be absolutely water-tight, or does the buoyancy and spread weight of the solid deck minimise water seeping in? If it's vital do I need to take the keel tape off and re-stick (would duct tape be a temporary fix?)?
Thanks in advance
S.

I expect duct tape would work well as a temporary fix. We used it for weeks on a number of air leaks in a very old hypalon boat,& apart from "bubbles" in the tape,it did the job.
