Anyone buy their boaty DIY tools by post? That's about to be stopped for many items. The Offensive Weapons Bill (HC232) going through parliament will stop bladed items being delivered to residential addresses. Includes items such as chisels, plane blades, scuba knives and much more.

Will it apply to sales to France? I use them frequently..
Why not go after the internet sales of Zombie knives, rather than plane blades, not noted for their use in street crime?

Oh that's easy. Leave the biggest free trade area in the world (even with all its problems), thus sabbotaging the economy and we'll soon all be far too poor to be wasting what little money we have left on buying online tools. We certainly won't be buying them from "abroad":ambivalence:

Great MartynG if you happen to have a tool shop close by, but our nearest stockist that holds a good selection of tools is 30miles away, a round trip of 60 miles, or order on-line at the click of a button.

I didn't miss it. I assumed it would be legal for me to drive to nearest Toolstation, buy some items but ask for free home delivery instead of taking them over the counter. Perfectly legal to have them delivered to my home the following day. However, it wouldn't be legal to order by phone, email or website and have items delivered to home. Not the most convenient way to shop.

I had my damaged 18 year old leatherman replaced recently under warranty. The only authorised dealer is about 100+ miles away and sent a replacement FOC by courier. I expect that would be illegal under the proposed bill.

It isn't written to be understood...

But it doesn't read like you can't distance sell. Just that you must authenticate the age of the buyer and ensure the delivery is to someone >18.

There are means and ways to do that...

Ask for a photo of passport/driving licence etc. Address parcel to that person. Instruct courier not to give to anyone else. Its a pain. Its not likely to work for £2.99 deliveries.

100,000 signatures only gives the government the opportunity to tell us why they are right and the petitioners are wrong... even though the crook who wants a blade for nefarious reasons need only go to a shop and buy one, (anonymously), or the kitchen drawer and pick one out.
