We have found ourselves in a dilemma. My sons have grown up and one has gone, good job , house, sorted., the youngest will be driving in the next year or so but has never taken to boating. We are like many parents on here i.e very supportive with his studies and his sports ( all that takes time ) I said for years that I would quit motorcycle sport but I love it more than ever and have no plans to quit that either. Our business is very busy, I like the work and have no plans to retire as seen what it does to many and it's not great. ( That's just my opinion many will disagree). What all this means is time for boating has become harder to come by and yet my wife and I are passionate about getting out of the Solent and we like France and love the Channel Islands. A blast to Weymouth is a real favourite. When we have had the time we have done the trips.

So much as we loved our Broom ( best build boat I have owned) We sat down in November and had a really good think about what we need from a boat. We spent two days in Hall 5 of the Düsseldorf show and looked over some lovely stuff. I liked the Nordic walk around boats and wanted something with a side door where I could deal with the boat single handed if required. The bottom line is that we decided to move sideways in terms of size, sacrifice some internal volume but buy something where we can get in, shut the door and go! And I mean go. We have purchased a fast walk around. I will leave you in suspense and try and up load some pics tomorrow as I am visiting the new boat in the morning. More to follow.

I know.

Sorry, feeling smug.

And although I know Paul and he gave me a clue, I kept coming round to a particular boat and everything pointed to it, yet I kept saying to myself... no, surly not..

So good luck everyone

Sounds very exciting. Sargo would be my guess as well. Had a good look around it in Dusseldorf and loved the high quality feel to it.

Looking forward to the pics.

Not sure of what you've seen retirement doing to many, but after 8 years I'm still alive (touch wood!) and if there's one thing I might possibly regret, that's not having decided earlier... :D
Anyway, each to their own - liking what you do is what really matters, at the end of the day! :encouragement:

Looking fwd to the full disclosure, that sounds interesting!

Agree entirely with that Paul. I've seen too many people pop their clogs shortly after retirement or quickly become bored out of their minds. If you can work and enjoy it, then continue to do it even though it impinges on your boating. I'm in the same position myself and have decided to keep running my business because I know I probably wouldnt bother getting out of bed in the mornings if I didnt and thats despite the fact it stops me boating as much as I would like

Good luck with the Scandi walkaround if thats what you've gone for

Will be a gap for a week on this re pics. Boat was being worked on today, protection everywhere and if I am going to put a pic up then it needs to be a good one.!! A couple of you were correct. Axopar 37. Aft cabin model VERSION R in all grey.
Engines are the biggest option available which are twin 350's. It will top out close to 50 Knts but plan to cruise in the early / mid 30's which is what it is designed to do. It's a radical change but believe we will get more out of boating for our busy lives than we would have done before. Yarmouth to Gurensey in 2.5 hours on a good run. Hilarious. ??

That is wrong. Go to the Axopar web site. They do the 37 in several versions. Mine is the all weather fully enclosed aft cabin model. Go to the 37. Scroll down and you will see the version R

Wow, to say that's a bit of a contrast to a Broom is a massive understatement.
I'm assuming that net curtains and a matching bone china tea set are not on the Axopar options list :)

Brilliant. I did say it was a radical change in direction. All our crockery was melamine but know what you mean. One thing it does not come with is membership of the Broom Owners Club although I am pretty sure I was banned anyway??
