I did indeed end up buying a pair of new 906 heads. I also bought a new intake manifold just in case this was the culprit that caused the water ingestion. This is unlikely as I have recently watched two videos where sbc engines have been leaking past the intake gaskets for years and still ran fine (the oil just got contaminated. One engine was full of black lumpy deposits below the intake manifold). better safe that sorry. The whole exhaust and engine top end is now replaced with new. If it sucks in water again it will be down to black magic.
