Don't think you've got a monopoly on the wind in UK. The marina office recorded 73knots here on Thursday and the yard had a high of 82knots; and it been blowing pretty consistantly for about a week....... 2 more days forecast before it all goes away for a bit. Sant Carles is between Tarragona and Valencia if anyone's interested.
If you look at the synoptic chart the deep low dissipates before reaching Scotland http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/surface_pressure.html
Yes, the depression responsible is now shown as deepening to 928mb Saturday noon and is to the west of Ireland... http://www.weathercharts.org/ukmomslp.htm
I seem to dimly remember the 1987 hurricane that hit the UK was `only` 948mb........ YIKES
