According to the Spanish news the Uk is going to be visite by a nasty storm ,like wot we ha here last week.I checke on wind guru for East Wittering and it give gusts up to 48 knots next week.

Looking at passage weather it looks like its going to be windy in the channel but ashore weaker.well I hope my cover stays on......and Emsworth stays where I saw it last!

We had a good blow here a few days ago, saw 52kt gusts. Wind genny on adjacent boat lost its 3 blades, parts of one landed on a boat 100m further down the yard, another knocked some paint and primer off on a steel boat. Good job no-one got hit, could have been fatal.

Don't think you've got a monopoly on the wind in UK. The marina office recorded 73knots here on Thursday and the yard had a high of 82knots; and it been blowing pretty consistantly for about a week....... 2 more days forecast before it all goes away for a bit. Sant Carles is between Tarragona and Valencia if anyone's interested.

Is that usual around there? Bit of an odd choice for the winter if so...

Yes, the depression responsible is now shown as deepening to 928mb Saturday noon and is to the west of Ireland... http://www.weathercharts.org/ukmomslp.htm

I seem to dimly remember the 1987 hurricane that hit the UK was `only` 948mb........ YIKES

928 is indeed scarey, but the '87 pressure you mention is not comparing like with like. That was a very small, tight low with a correspondingly intense pressure gradient, quite unlike the approaching Atlantic low. Still, hold on to your hats and good luck with your boats.
