Whilst polishing electrical flash burns from the stainless suuround one layer if the glass cracked. Is it poss to cut laminated glass and have the edges ground. I've cut and ground glass before but not laminated.

Yes it is!
A glass cutter will do it for you, however if you want to try it yourself it is done like this:
Mark and cut the glass on one side, then turn it over and cut again on the other side. Then run methylated spirits into the cut on one side. Set the meths on fire and after a few seconds while is is still on fire gently bend the glass down until it parts. Blow out the flames!

What you say is correct but. If the glass is light 6.4 mm or the like or even 8.4 mm you need not use the meths just fold it a few times and if necessary cut it with a stanley knife. What is important is to makesure that you get the score lines directly over eachother.
If you need to cut triple laminate it is possible to cut it with a battery operated glass cutter, it is like a very small circular saw, many glass specialists have them or tilers. Makita make them.
you cannot cut toughened and it is dangerous to try.
