I had a laminated glass windscreen cut for a car once. The guy just scored both sides with a glass cutter as usual and then snapped each glass "half" as you would with an ordinary pane of glass. He then cut through the interlayer with what looked like an ordinary Stanley knife.
Score both sides with glass cutter, gently tap along scratch with side of cutter until you see a flaw along the scratch, do this on both sides. Now move your glass so that the intended cut is just over the end of table/bench and apply a bit of downward pressure followed by a lift upwards. The cut will open up slightly, cut along laminate with stanley/craft knife. Easier if you are cutting off big pieces, bit more tricky with the little bits.
My glazier scores and snaps the glass then puts lighter fluid in the cut and lights it , then goes down the cut with a razor blade . THe lighter fluid only burns for a few seconds .
Why do you need to cut it ? did you measure it wrong /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I used to work in the glass industry donkey's years ago. Avocet has described exactly how we used to do it, but it isn't easy. Why don't you take it to a glass merchant and ask them to do it for you, it'll probably be cheaper in the long run.
Ok cut it and didn't break it.....phew! Now do I need to seal the edges to stop moisture ingress......Y/N?
Now I've cut it, can I heat and shape it like you would with ordinary glass? Is there anything I need to know/missing, apart from my sanity. Thanx for the help so far people.
