Being a septuagenarian I find I can rarely say what I mean in less than two sentences

Cutting faced board I use a circular saw with the board face down. Use a straight edge and clamps to run the saw along. This is for plastic or similar laminate faced board, not sure about formica, but, as above, cut slightly oversize and dress. Some laminates you can score with a Stanley knife before cutting, try it first. A fine handsaw will probably do least damage to be honest. Jigsaw a nono.
