Cutting cable ST 60 Depth transducer

To those using instruments to check the effect of trimming sails - beware of "moving averages".
Not all instruments (including GPS') give an instantaneously accurate reading. Many give a moving average over several time periods (seconds or minutes depending). Thus they will display a number every couple of seconds but it is unlikely to be as accurate and certainly not as "real-time" as you think. It is highly unlikely to be only in response to your sail trim - it could be responding to the wave that hit the bow a minute or two ago.
I'd check your instrument manufacturer before betting on GPS vs normal instrument. Cheers, Andrew

Yes you can cut the long and wind instruments.

Just join them with care (mine are chocolate blocked) also you need ot join the "shielding" wire as well, or they do not work.

Sensible to keep them dry or you start to get stray readings :o.

As I can work out the better the join the better the reading as the feed backs are current/ voltage sensitive not digital on of pulses....

You have said it may be difficult to re thread the wire but you could attach a thin line to it when removing to help pull it back via all those bends etc.
Whenever I have to place a new wire I also place a cord alongside it so I can pull other wires through the same route as well if needs be
