Cutting Butyl Hose

cut with a knife the plastic part of the hose down to the wire on the opposite side, pull apart the two ends a bit so that the wire is exposed, then use surface, or "end cut" pincers. These nip the wire right at the surface of the plastic and do not leave a jagged edge.

They are also useful for trimming horses' hooves....
 
For me I would use the angle grinder with a thin cutting blade because I always have one on board charged up ready to go. It's easy and will take care of the reinforcing wire.
However, second choice would be the hacksaw with the stanley knife a distant way off down the list due to the type of hoze.
One thing I would do is put a band of masking tape around so it gives a guide to cut to. Otherwise the cut may be all over the place!

More progress today, and after making a few more cuts, I have become more confident in the method which I adopted. Mark the hose (tape is a good option), cut slowly with a good quality Stanley knife, until the first wire is encountered, then continue cutting on the other side of the wire until the second wire (180 deg. from the first), is encountered (sorry I did not take pics.). Complete cutting and the hose comes apart a cm or so, exposing the wires. Cut them as close to the edge as possible with wire cutters (I used side cutters as they get in close, and anyway I do not have anything more suitable in the tool box) - Job done.
I will try to post some pics of the pipework after the next session tomorrow!

Criminal offence to cut wire with tin snips when I did my apprenticeship.

Ha ha must have been back in the day's when you could only cut tin with them.:p
