Cutting a rear access door?

I must admit that I'm pleased with the results but most of it is really just basic GRP work done carefully and over a fairly long time period allowing for curing between coats of resin, filler, primer etc. etc.

What I am
Always impressed with is the colour matching - the only gel repairs I have ever tried, the colour match was dreadful
I cheated! The boat is sprayed so colour matching was not a problem! If I had needed to gel match I would have got our local car paint supplier to use their matching gadget to match the gel and then get them to supply an aerosol of car paint and spray the door to match.

I did a very similar job. My transom already had a half height access gangway which I cut down to deck level and then fabricated a door to match the transom.

Original gangway inside.

and from outside.

Cut-out finished.

Had to lay-up a mould using the transom as the plug for the outside of the door.

Polished to a rough finish. Didn't need to be perfect at this stage.

Fabricated the inner stiffeners onto the mat/resin on the mould.

Lots of fairing, filling and sanding.

Fabricated my own stainless hinges for the now primed door.

Finished outside view.

Inside view. The door catch was made from a standard stainless domestic set with various custom bits inside to make it work. (Nothing complicated though).

PM me if you'd like any more details.
(Sharp eyed readers may notice that I also added a bathing/boarding platform in the interim).
That looks the doggies mate. Super job!
Waiting to finish lots of jobs then start this when weather improves a bit

I’ll be doing the same, I was a paint sprayer for years so I can get it matched to the gel and spray and blend in easily

super job mate!
what did you plug the side cut out parts on the transom with?
I was thinking resin impregnated marine ply 18mm or maybe doubled to 36mm then glassed and faired.

1 used 12mm exterior ply coated with resin both sides and then 3 layers of mat and resin. Car body filler for fairing, epoxy primed and finished with Jotun Megagloss. Once afloat if there is excess flex in the upper transom I'll install a steel 'U' assembly from underneath to stiffen each side of the opening.

Good man Thanks,
what did you use to cut the transom? was thinking a laser level then sharp hand saw to keep as square as possible.
