Hi all.
I have just managed to remove the old cutless bearing from it's P bracket. There was a fair amount of wiggle on the prop shaft so it definitely needed replacing.
It's a 50 year old boat and the bearing has obviously been replaced several times. The inside of the bronze P bracket (the hole where the cutless bearing sits) has a few saw marks (one quite deep) where previous owners (and possibly myself) were a little over eager when sawing through the old cutless bearing to remove it. I know all about the tools that exist to remove the bearing without removing the prop shaft, but my question is this: is there a good way to fill in these saw marks? Epoxy perhaps?
Thanks.
