Cutlass Bearing Moody

I am in the process of purchasing a moody 33. It has a cutlass bearing in a P bracket. The survey says that the bearing has a little play in it. My previous boat was a Macwester with a massive skeg, whiich held the cutlass bearing and was never a problem to change. Question is , is it a problem changing a bearing in a P bracket? What could any problems be?

Removing the shaft?

It will foul on the rudder skeg. I'm not sure that the shaft can be pulled except through the engine space. Unless ... Much as someone told me never to disturb the P-bracket, this looks like the easiest way to gain access to the bearing (and for shaft removal, for that matter). The bracket is pulled up into a recess in the hull moulding by 4 nuts which are easily accessed under a board in the aft cabin: seems to be faired in to the outer surface with a small amount of filler. Pull the prop, slacken off the P-bracket mounts, disconnect the shaft from the box to allow some extra movement, and slip the bracket off the prop end of the shaft. Or is there a P-bracket realignment problem I'm missing?
