I'm having trouble finding the correct cutlass bearing - shaft 25 mm OD 30 mm and L 60-100 mm. I have attached some photos but it seems to be a strange/unusual housing for the bearing. Has anyone had a similar issue or do I need to ditch this housing...thank you in anticipation

ID, OD and length are all that is usually required to select the cutlass, the hardest part on older boats is finding out which parts are imperial and which are metric...

The shells can come in brass or phenolic (composite). I would go with whatever you pulled out if it has given good life. A little more care needs to be take n when installing phenolic bearings as they can crack if misaligned or if there are burrs in the p-bracket.

Edit to add - it's been a long time but something sounded odd, so I had a quick look and cannot find any bearings with a 30mm outer. So you either have a boat builder specific one, or need to check again to see if there is a sleeve or something still in the bracket. If it is metric ID & OD, the common size is 25mm/35mm for brass, and 25/40mm for phenolic. I don't think you would be able to get a bras bearing machined down to 30mm

Strictly speaking that is not a cutless bearing and I can't think of a UK maker who does a lined bearing with that thin a shell. Suggest you have a composite bearing custom made. Talk to h4marine.com the owner posts here from time to time.

"composite cutless bearing" is sort of contradiction in terms. A cutless is a fluted rubber bearing in either a brass or phenolic shell. Composite normally refers to a plain bearing made of a material such as Vescamite. Doubt anybody here has experience of an Australian boat. However the only certain way of finding out is to remove the old one, measure accurately the shaft diameter and the OD. Looking at the boat the shaft is probably 1" but could be metric 25mm - measure accurately because the small difference is critical. As you can see from this catalogue pages 9 and 10 lakesterngear.co.uk/catalogue.pdf ODs vary, but lengths are usually 4" or 100mm. Pretty sure all of these sizes will be available where you are. If it is a solid bearing though you will need to get a new one machined to size.

Michigan Marine Propulsion based in Newton Abbott are your friends here.
But maybe not if you are Australia where the poster asking the question appears to be. At least the boat in question is Australian and never sold here. No shortage of suppliers in the UK though.

Try T Norris Marine. The may have one in stock or advise.

The OD will be the OD of what you refer to as housing and not OD of the bearing insert within it

If you are responding to the OP his post was over 4 years ago and he has not been on here for over a year. If to post#5 he seems to be in Australia and has not said what his bearing looks like.
If you are respondig to
