Hi there
Hoping for a bit of advice on the above subject.
I own a 1963 Fairey Huntsman 28 which I bought 3 years ago.Clearly the boat is old enough to qualify for VAT exempt status, do I have to prove this? As far as I can ascertain the boat was in Yarmouth IOW on the critical date of 31 Dec 1992. The previous owner has died and his widow has no further docs. Yarmouth harbour does not have records back that far and although they remember the boat there then they will not write a confirmation letter without records. I appreciate that UK customs no longer has the "Dover" VAT letter unit but what should I do about visiting France? Crossing fingers is not an option. Appreciate any thoughts
Thanks

I had the same sort of thing, second hand boat and all that. I phoned the VAT people and basically they said as long as I had a reciept the that was good enuff. I think basically that you bought the boat in the UK and money was changed hands so therefore if any VAT monies was due, it was included in the purchase price. Give them a call tho, because they may give you a different story. I don't think that the people who work there really understand the rules!

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

Hi Jonathon, P.M. with full details of the boat most importantly its original name and if you can find it the official registered number of the boat. I'm not promising anything but there is a remote chance I may have records on it. Failing that have you spoken to the Fairey Owners Club?
