Hello again
I don't know what it is called - but that slightly curved piece of wood under the hatch (like the top of the door frame) is a bit rotten - any one ever replaced one on a centaur - is it possible or AAAuuuuggghhh ish?

anything is possible, as it was man made in the first place. If you mean the bearer that supports the sliding hatch and gives it it's curved shape, then the only problem is that you either need a thicker bit of timber to be able to cut out the curve or a steamer to bend it to the required shape. it depends on your joinery skills as to wether it's an aaarrgh job or not. The easiest way is to mark out the curve on some paper or card template then cut the timber to the required shape, remove the old and fit the new. My Atlanta Viking has a similar curved sliding hatch.

Hi Andy, I suggest that you make up a new one if possible, by cutting and joining, using epoxy, into a bent shape, thin pieces of marine Plywood strips. You may be able to use the old one as a jig. Not an easy job.

I think I will try the template - my Dad says he has got some pieces of Mahogany that might be big enought to do it in one bit of wood

Thank you

Melody

We are talking Westerly Centaur.....WHen melody says curvy what she means is that it is a piec of flat would with a curved top edge and parallel to it a curved bottom edge as fitted where you bang your head.

A piec of flat wood or marine ply about 1/2 to 3/4 in old money cut to template will be fine. No laminating needed nor steam bending...Don t confuse the gal!!!!!
