Hi I have a mf 925 which i'm updating i have ordered new leather for the upholstery and was wondering should i stick with the pull along curtains which are currently on the boat or go with stainless steel type venetian or wooden blinds any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated and some photos of your set up would be even better thanks for your help and time

eagerly waiting for the consensus on this, I'm in the same position as you, my falcon 27 is showing her years a bit on the styling front, I have followed a few rebuild threads and most forumites seem to respect the classical styling to a greater or lesser degree, I have an urge to bring my boat up to date a bit, but don't want to end up with mutton dressed as lamb

I've had same dilemma on my last two boats and ended up with curtains as I couldn't find an alternative that would work/fit both boats much older than a MF 925.

Having said that I think curtains add a softer finish. Choose the right fabric and it can add a modern look and lift the interior.

No, sorry no pics pre-blinds. We bought the boat from Norfolk Yacht Agency who had it as a stock boat and I think did the blinds (they do a good job on their stock boats). I can say that a previous boat (Broom Ocean 37) had very nice curtains, which made the saloon feel cosy and quite opulent but I prefer the clean, modern and spacious feel created by the blinds.

Only issue is that where the windows are not square (i.e. at the front of the saloon) we don't have anything but I have seen this overcome by mixing Venetian blinds with the material Oceanair type that can be made to measure to cover odd shaped windows.

There are wires running from above the window down to the woodwork below the window, which each end of the blind is secured to and runs up and down. Keeps things steady and neat and fine at sea albeit I tend to raise them before we sail just to reduce any pressure on the wires (belt and braces measure really as I have no reason to think that there wold be a problem)

another vote for blinds. Curtains CAN somehow give a slight caravan look in some boats. I can say this cos I have always had curtains and was always going to get around to fitting blinds but never seem to get there - always something more important on the boat to spend money on.

We changed from curtains to blinds in our Bertram 42. It transforms the look of the saloon, i.e. Makes it more modern looking and roomier. Only downside we have noticed is its a bit colder. The curtains when closed kept out any drafts. Shouldn't be a problem if your windows are all sealed up tight, but on our old girl they like to breath a bit.

Come on lads, man up a bit.

I'm all for the girls having a little area to discuss home making but you lot are really getting into this. We lost JFM to scatter cushions a long time ago, he couldn't resist but he's trying hard to fight back with more mechanical topics. Jimmy the Builder went all classical music and opera but he's now back on track as a long distance trucker.

Start a topic on gutting fish or re-sleeving a 15 litre Detroit Diesel engine.

Just for the record I would go for blinds.

It's very much a personal taste thing. Some will prefer contemporary modern look while others will opt for traditional cosy feel.

Personally I like curtains as they are warm, cosy and look homely. I have blinds in my office at work but that's not home.

there is another issue with blinds, they don't absorb sound like curtains and fabrics do,
the absorbtion of sound reflections is another element of making that cosy homely feel,

but nevertheless, the pictures earlyer in this thread convinced me to go for blinds,
(adding some more cushions will compensate for the sound absorbtion)
