We have an average white boat around 9 years old. My wife now wants to fit curtains in the saloon. This sounds a bit silly but I don't want to drill into the cabin walls to support the curtain rails and the internal surfaces of the yacht are wipe easy padding.

Any suggestions please?

If you have headlining on ply boards it may be possible to fit light weight curtain track to the edges. For lightweight track and runners look at what is supplied for the caravan market ( Silent Gliss is a brand name that comes to mind and is I think what I bought)

See waht Hawke House have to offer http://www.hawkehouse.co.uk/upholstery-curtain.html

Hate the look of curtains on a boat. If privacy is required, an artfully draped beach towel will do the job.

Or turn off/ dim the lamps.

I bought some lightweight telescopic curtain rods in a French supermarket. They are supported by a hook at each end. The hooks have a pad of contact adhesive on the back so they can be attached to the coachroof side.

So far (one year!) they have not fallen off. If you object to your wife having curtains you can easily remove the rods and curtains during the day.

Personally I take the view that if my Old Guvnor wants curtains, she is welcome to have them. It's a small price to pay for having the pleasure of her company and her undoubted skills as cook/purser/crew/nurse etc

Men ought not to meddle in domestic matters.

I have self adhesive press studs that may come in handy. They work with all DOT brand snap fasteners, not really for curtain rails as such but would be ideal for making window covers for inside.
