Current Thames status?

Yesterday morning in Abingdon the water had gone down about 2½' with another 3' or so to go, just on my way back there now and I'm hoping another foot or two gone. Stream still running very fast though. I'll have to see if the library has any internet facilities.

Can some of our 'on the spot' reporters give us the latest sitreps please?

Running fast but almost back to normal levels here at South Stoke.

Went out in an open motor launch last night and went ½ way to Wallingford.

Down about 18-20" here and falling - I even have my mooring back, though the ducks are still at high speed.

Ditto Gavi, down a foot or more.

This morning I was able to sweep 4" of silt off the moorings...

... and this afternoon it was dry.

I used the school run boat to nip down to Laleham wharf this evening and because of the current you still have to make upstream at a snails pace to avoid wash.

Chatting to Dennetts today, they are planning to retrieve their Dunkirk boats on Thursday.

Sunbury down about 12 to 14 inches since Saturday. Still running very fast past Wilsons .

I had a quick look at Caversham lock on the way in to work this morning. Level looked about normal above the lock, but red boards up.

I have a trip planned for Friday afternoon. I assumed I would have to cancel looking at the reports and predictions last week, but I wonder now if things will be getting back to normal by then.

And then Yesterday things seem to be returning to somewhere near normality,

still a good 18" higher than completely normal levels but getting there

Culham to Clifton reach still too high to navigate at the moment, I think they are holding this reach back. Couldn't confirm whether the lock has been fixed as the lock keeper was not about, but a large tug has been tied up inside the lock all week so effectively its blocked and out of action at the moment.

Kingston to Tedd almost back to normal, levels have remained constant throughout and stream although a little fast is fine with plenty of traffic building again.

BUT lots of water still running over Tedd Weir.

Just run down from Trad Rally site at Henley to Hurley lock in Moja, fierce side current from the Hambleden weir below lock, and also tail end of Hurley Islands where it opens out. Lock keepers say tomorrow should be much easier, weekend back to some sot of normality. Sky Diver and Lovejoy were in advance of us, Peter at Hambleden said they were stuck above Shiplake Islands with water to their chest height on the bank, needing air ambulance drops for supplies.

Thanks for that. Skydiver and Lovejoy are mates of mine from my marina and I have been keeping in touch by mobile. Apparently they were befriended by a neighbourly narrowboat with a dinghy who helped with fresh water etc. They were trapped at Shiplake near the end of their two week holiday and Lovejoy should have been back at work 10 days ago so they will be well pleased to be getting on their way at last.!

Rowers are back on the river at Shepperton, however unless its an 8-man they're not getting anywhere fast against the stream. Swans still easily getting up onto the lawn so still some way top drop.
