Current info on Chi Bar.

Chichester Harbour Bar and Entrance

I have found over the years that the 'Bar' is quite mobile in depth, especially after big swells have moved the gravel about so take care at LW springs - there is nearly always a deeper scour than charted depth however the trick is finding it.

We noticed last week North Winner Green cans look to have been moved north a bit again,
However as the Conservancy says you can now aim for Camber SC post as soon as you pass North Winner Green and go well north of the Red cans current postions at East Head thus avoiding the scrum at the bend on summer weekends. I think these Cans will be moved ( this month I believe ) considerably North as well so should mix everybody up nicely with the racing boys favourite courses.

The shortcut across Winner sands to the east of the Gravel Bank and main channel is getting deeper as well, I had 2M plus clearance at HW Neaps last year.

Flat water today but quite a low swell, thus breaking waves on all the shallow bits from Winner along to Selsey Bill at Lunchtime -felt like Spring was knocking on the door in the Sunshine.

Good to hear they are at last doing something about the reds off E Head. Most of last season there was at least the same depth a cable or more north of them - in fact last autumn it seemed the deepest water was actually north of the markers.

Havent been over the bar recently, but the depth there is very variable, and the figure Cd+.75 seems to be a minimum, rather than actual figure.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that 0.75 is a once every 5 year event.

It's just not practical for visitors to assume 0.75 so this thread suggests it continues to be a case of assuming 1.5 and keeping an eye on the echo sounder.

Thanks all.
