Current deck shoe of choice?

My trusty M&S deck shoes have died after 5 or so seasons and it's time to replace them. Before I go and buy the same again, is there a better option? something with a bit more cushioning for using ashore would be nice. Requirements are;
  • <£50 (may consider spending a bit more)
  • Leather
  • Comfortable
  • Quick drying - invariably they get wet getting out the tender onto the beach...

While WAY over your budget I love my Conker deck shoes comfortable and they will repair anything on the shoe. So in the long term they work out cheaper.

I too have Orca Bay shoes (two pairs) and would certainly buy them again. My wife has their sea boots and likes the style and if she ever gets them wet may like their function too!

I have used M&S deck shoes for years. I have bought Dubarry, Orca Bay and Quaysides in the past, but much prefer the very comfy M&S ones.

I bought a pair of these in March and have worn them day in and day out on our voyage from Enkhuizen to La Coruña. Great shoes. Comfortable and well made.
 
I've used Clarks for years and they seem pretty reasonable. TK Maxx is worth a look; I've had Sebagos from there for the price of M&S sales, but be leery of makes you don't recognise - plenty are pure fashion items. Rightly or wrongly, I've always worked on the basis that a proper boat shoe has a one piece lace going all round, fashion jobbies have a lace to tie the thing on and another, purely decorative bit on the sides.
 
I have a pair of Orcas. There's nothing wrong with them except that I don't find them comfortable. My flimsy ones From Chatham are better but not substantial. You just have to try lots out and see what suits.
 
My current boat shoes are Clarke's and a " plastic" trainer type, they grip extremely well, are gortex lined, comfortable and dry quickly if water does get in (they are "Shoes" after all). I've a pair of Dubarry's that look the part and are fine for walks ashore, but they don't stick to the deck. In order of personal preference, I have had Sebago, Timberland (both bought in American Discount stores), Moshulu ( the MOST comfortable by far and least hard wearing), M&S and Barbour. I'd buy the Clarke's trainers again and either the Sebago or Timberland at US discount prices. If money were no object, it's got be the Moshulus every time. Dubarry and Barbour:- never again.
 
Saw a post on another thread not so long ago recommending squash shoes. Bought a cheap Dunlop pair to try. Good grip in dry and wet but perhaps not the look you might want ashore. I only use them for sailing.
 
Clarks are apparently rebranded Mustos and I've found them excellent whether that's true or not. Not quite the cheapest but not much more and they seem to last well. The also do slightly more expensive trainer style as well which do give an excellent non-slip and are also a lttle snugger and more comfortable than trad deckies for me. Still talking much nearer £50 than £100 for stuff that Musto etc. want way £100 for.
 
Although scruff’s location gives no clue as to how convenient the Southampton boat show is...

I always disliked the idea of dubarry as being one of those brands for people with money to burn but I now have 2 pairs bought at boat shows at less than half price:
Leather deck shoes bought 10 years ago and the most comfortable footwear I have ever owned
Synthetic trainery things. A bit sweaty but functionally the best mild weather boat footwear i’ve owned. Grippy and perfect for jumping onto pontoons. Rubbish for running a 10k in.
My advice? Wait a few weeks. Look what’s less than half price at Southampton boat show. Youboat often has some good bargains

That wasn't my experience with the only pair I have ever owned. This was my shoe only three months after purchase from new stock, having been apparently good for a week or two. Fortunately the chandlers gave me a refund.
