Was about to reply to BrendanS post on Polite Reminder, but got to thinking (always dangerous)...hence new thread.

The nasty posts always seem to happen after the witchin' hour and usually invlove a new user. Brendan was right when he pointed out that this (and I think all) forums are full of insider stuff - that's what makes it fun for us reglars!

Perhaps we should learn from this, and in particular avoid responding to new user threads after the watershed?

Should we have a late nite curfew on new users?

Possibly it would be better for all of us to tread warily around new users until they know us well enough and that Fred Drift is a natural phenonema that occurs in every Forum anywhere on the Net and has been so since Walter Raleigh first came back from the USA with a PC and tried to smoke it. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

I reckon it's incumbent upon newbies to accept a little gentle teasing and not to threaten to smash people's faces in at the first opportunity. They are, after all, joining a new club and they should make allowances. Likewise, we shouldn't rip the p*ss out of the newbies too severely. IMHO, natch.

I agree with your comments, however, HLB did not "rip the piss" out of Mack, he was being serious and answering the question, it just got a little muddled in the translation, not enough to recieve threats of violence anyway, that was totally un-acceptable behaviour, for which the guy should have been well chastised, which he was. It is that kind of behaviour, which gives us all a bad name.

Yep...absolutleyright , hlb did little apart from be 'concise' with his advice. However a few others of us did weigh in a little heavily ..including me....fishing you might have called it...could have been Steve 101 on the line /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I'm very glad and honoured that you all did get involved. Lets face it, it sounds much better when others comment and say what they think, than me having a go back at him. Not sure it helped when Byron said I was only joking though, think thats what put the cat among the motorboaties./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Yep! haydn, you're right but I really did think you were kidding around. Sorry /forums/images/icons/frown.gif and he should have accepted it in good grace.
