I used to lubricate ours with the grease that replaced the (Duckhams??)one used for stern glands, might well have been an axle grease, it was waterproof and I bought mine from the auto spares shop top of quay hill in lymington where it joins the High street. Peggy Hall, otherwise the all things 'loo' lady and called 'headmistress' on the fora of old recommended using a teflon grease regularly but the principle is much the same.

Was it called 'Morrisons'??

No its called Hilliards.

Safeway became Morrisons for a short while but is now Waitrose.

I tried the hot water treatment at the weekend. It didn't work. Maybe I didn't leave the hot water in the bowl for long enough.

Then I tried a little washing up liquid. That did work, but not as well as cooking oil.

As removal of the piston is so easy (and hopefully not too repulsive) I think I'll give it a go with a dob of waterproof grease.

It is very easy indeed unless you have a really really stoneage Jabsco that is without the moulded in 'nut' to give instant access to the piston for greasing.

A further point, if you decide to take off the pump, strip it down and reassemble with new valves etc., DO make sure you label the 2 identical size hoses that connect to the top of the pump.

If as I did, you fail to do this and swap them over by mistake, rather strange things happen.

SWMBO was not pleased.
